Garmin seems to be pretty good about swapping units with this issue lately, especially given their recent change to disable the altimeter/temp in pool swims, due to causing higher than expected rates of failure. It's the most comprehensive look at Garmin's top multisport watch out there - the FR945 In-Depth Review.

DC Rainmaker. May 26, 2016 at 4:57 am #679. The FR735XT uses the Garmin Elevate optical HR sensor. Same as the Fenix3 HR, Vivoactive HR, Vivosmart HR/+, and FR235. In general that sensor with all of its most recent firmware updates is mostly good, even in running intervals actually.
Back a few months ago Garmin released the Instinct 2X, which is essentially a bigger Instinct 2 device with a flashlight and multiband GNSS. But on the software side, most notably, it included not only the Morning Report feature, but also Training Readiness. The morning report had been beta tested on the regular Instinct 2 units last December
The Garmin Instinct 2 apparently shacked up with a prettier colleague from the Vivomove series division, resulting in this new hand-laden Garmin Instinct edition, aptly called the Instinct Crossover. As with most Instinct things, whether or not it’s pretty is in the eye of the beholder. Some people love this style, others hate it.
F3HR was just recently released, so they started with top model to get more revenue. I suppose. So a “non-sapphire” F3HR may be released at a later stage. Possibly, close to Fenix 5 launch 🙂 “Fenix 3 HR which is reviewed here comes ONLY with a Sapphire screen. No metal band” Just couple of days ago Garmin released new D2 Bravo.
